Blyth Town Council Moves Forward with Play Area and MUGA Refurbishments

Blyth Town Council’s Environment Committee has taken a significant step towards further enhancing local recreational spaces, agreeing to go out to tender for the refurbishment of the Cottingwood Green play area and to undertake refurbishments to the St. John's Multi-Use Games Area (Goschen Street).
The decision was made at the committee’s meeting on 27 February, where members discussed the need for improved play and sports facilities for residents. The planned refurbishments align with the council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing community play spaces as per the play area replacement schedule.
The Cottingwood Green play area will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment, with the council seeking bids from contractors to carry out the work. This process ensures that the best value and quality improvements are secured for the community.
Meanwhile, the St. John's MUGA will receive necessary upgrades to improve its usability and safety for local sports enthusiasts. Multi-use games areas are essential community assets, providing spaces for football, basketball, and other recreational activities.
Cllr Kath Nisbet, Chair of the Committee, emphasised the importance of investing in outdoor spaces, stating, "Ensuring our play areas and sports facilities remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all is a key priority. These refurbishments will enhance opportunities for children and young people to stay active and engaged in their local environment."
Tenders are now invited for the Cottingwood Green project, with work expected to commence once a contractor is appointed. The refurbishment of St. John's MUGA will also proceed as planned.
