Blyth Town Council Joins National Civility and Respect Pledge

At its Full Council meeting on 9 January 2025, Blyth Town Council unanimously agreed to sign the Civility and Respect Pledge, a national initiative endorsed by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), the Society of Local Council Clerks, and One Voice Wales.
The pledge emphasises the Council's commitment to fostering a culture of civility and respect, ensuring positive interactions among councillors, staff, and members of the community. By signing the pledge, Blyth Town Council is demonstrating its dedication to good governance and the principles of equality, respect, and professionalism.
The pledge aligns with the Council's efforts to maintain a robust and well-functioning democracy and includes adopting key policies such as a Training and Development and Dignity at Work. These measures reinforce the Council’s stance against bullying, harassment, and intimidation while promoting a welcoming environment for public participation and local engagement.
Blyth Town Council’s participation also supports ongoing advocacy for legislative reforms to strengthen sanctions against unacceptable behaviour within the sector. The Council joins 1,663 councils across the UK, including several in Northumberland, in championing this vital initiative.
