Vandalism at the New Axwell Drive Play Area
We are disappointed and concerned at the latest vandalism on the new Axwell Drive Play Area.
The inclusive swing, which was specifically designed to accommodate children with restricted mobility and those who require full body support, has had its five-point secure harness stolen—rendering the swing unusable for the very children it was meant to serve.
These swings, equipped with a sturdy five-point harness, provide not only fun but essential accessibility for children with disabilities who otherwise wouldn’t be able to enjoy such playground equipment. This vandalism strikes at the heart of the Council’s efforts to create a more inclusive environment for all children, regardless of ability. Every child has the right for to play freely and safely.
As a community, we must remember that playgrounds like Axwell Drive are built for the benefit of all children. If you have any information about this essential bit of stolen kit please contact Blyth Town Council on 01670 361688.
While the swing may still be used as a swing seat, it is no longer fully inclusive. Replacement parts have been ordered.
