Axwell Drive Play Area Update 23 Sept 2024

Council News Blyth Town News Public Noticeboard

While the new equipment has been successfully installed at Axwell Drive, some final tasks remain before the play area can be safely reopened.

We expect turf to be laid later this week, which will allow us to install the rubber safety matting around the remaining play structures. This safety surfacing provides cushioning in the event of falls, helping to reduce the risk of injury.

Additionally, we are awaiting the completion of the new fence installation. Until then, the Heras fencing will remain in place. Once all work is finalised, the play area will undergo a thorough post-installation health and safety inspection, conducted in line with guidelines from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

We are still on track to reopen the play area before the October school holidays and kindly ask for your patience as we complete these important safety measures.

Further to this, at a meeting of the Environment Committee held 19 September 2024, members agreed to installing fencing along Axwell Drive and Brierley Road to prohibit vehicles driving onto the grass – a complaint that has been raised by the community to local ward members.
