New Mayor Aileen Barrass with outgoing Mayor Warren Taylor

At the latest Blyth Town Council Annual General Meeting, Councillor Aileen Barrass was elected the new Mayor of Blyth. Taking the reins from Councillor Warren Taylor, she is also joined by Councillor Adrian Cartie as Deputy Mayor.

On receiving the title, Mayor Aileen Barrass said, "I would like to express my gratitude to Councillor Warren Taylor for his outstanding work over the past 3 years as Mayor. He has set a high standard that will be difficult to match. Our town is undergoing exciting redevelopment, and Blyth Town Council is working hard to ensure our residents benefit from these changes. I'm honoured to represent Blyth as Mayor over the coming year and eager to serve the community to the best of my abilities."

A keen advocate for conservation and the improvement of Blyth's local open spaces, Mayor Barrass continued, "Blyth is fortunate to have several beautiful natural and man-made areas, and I am committed to the preservation of these. "

The new Mayor was elected Town Councillor for Cowpen Ward in 2021 and was last year's Deputy Mayor and Deputy Chair of the Environment Committee.
