Blyth Town Council have a service level agreement in place with Northumberland County Council for an enhanced level of environmental enforcement.

The Environmental Enforcement Team are employed to deal with any issues that affect the environment such as litter, dog fouling, fly tipping, public space protection order, accumulations of waste and abandoned vehicles. The enhanced service offers a proactive, intelligence-based approach to dealing with these issues.

The Enforcement Team rely on reporting from residents in Blyth to be directed to where there are persistent problems within the town.

Residents are encouraged to use FixMyStreet to report problems.

During 2025-2026, the team:

• Received 1,062 reports of fly tipping
• Received 187 reports of abandoned vehicles
• Received 162 reports of dog fouling
• Carried out 276 investigations across the town

This work led to:

• 7 flytipping prosecutions
• 9 Fixed Penalty Notices for fly tipping and littering
• 19 formal enforcement actions to tackle waste accumulations and other environmental offences.
