3G Pitch at Bede Academy, Blyth

Council News Blyth Town News Public Noticeboard

A new era has dawned for sport in our local area with the opening of Bede Academy’s brand new 3G Rugby and Football pitch.

The impressive new facility was opened by Newcastle United star and local Blyth lad Dan Burn in a ceremony held on Monday 8th July. It marks the culmination of a project that has been developed over the past two years alongside local Grassroots Sports Partners and the Football Foundation.

The new pitch is both FIFA and WRU-compliant. It includes both rugby and football posts, a viewing area for coaches and parents, and it becomes ESF’s first outdoor sports space to be lit with energy-saving LED floodlights, controlled from a phone app.

Andrew Thelwell, Principal at Bede Academy said, “This is an exceptional facility. Our students and our partner grassroots sports clubs can now enjoy access to the very best-possible training facility. We’re so grateful to the team who have worked hard to make this happen here in Blyth.”

Helen Beales, Head of Business Development at Northumberland FA said: “High quality facilities are vital to our grassroots clubs, helping them grow and develop playing opportunities for everyone. This new pitch will bring widespread benefits to its local community, and we look forward to seeing it in action.”

This project has been made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation.
